Steven West Award


				Born on 22nd February 1972 Steven West was a very respected, valued and energetic member of Castle Bromwich Badminton Club, who sadly died from a previously undiagnosed heart disease on 7th of June 2006 at the young age of 34. It is in this memory of Steve that Castle Bromwich Badminton Club presents the Steven West award to the person, or club, that shows the most positive approach to youth badminton in Birmingham.
				Steve was known for amongst other things, his determined approach to badminton matches, his easy smile, and his terrible jokes that had been heard so many times before. His fun approach to life, his self-criticism when he felt he had let the team down. He enjoyed fishing almost as much as badminton. One thing not so apparent was Steve's desire to give something back to the sport he loved and in which he played successfully for many years. Whenever there were young players at the club, Steve was always happy to give unselfishly of his time to help encourage and coach them. The ability of the player was not his main concern, rather the desire they had to play and to enjoy the game. Due to his easy going, friendly, patient manner, Steve was able to bring the enjoyment of badminton to those who were just starting out in the game. He was a great friend to all, not only to those in the club who knew him best, but to the many who met him whilst playing badminton in Birmingham and Solihull league in both matches and tournaments.
